Beth Somerville is a textile artist whose practice is defined by its high quality of craftsmanship, rhythmic patterns, and a purposeful clarity of line. Drawing inspiration from the natural world, she interrogates fragility, light and geometry, abstracting to create harmonious compositions in stitch.

Inspired by artists such as Ben Nicholson, Hilma Aft Klint and Karl Blossfeldt, Beth works with various embroidery techniques, allowing the innate qualities of her materials to speak for themselves. Beth is drawn to exquisite details in found objects and has a deep appreciation for ephemerality and transience in the nature.

Through a process of playing with technique and material she responds intuitively to the textural properties of these found forms, distilling their essence into permanence.
